Breckin's birth story...

I think I knew all along that he would come early.  And that is exactly what he did.

After a very nice weekend with one of my best friends, Nikki and her son Cameron I thought I could relax a bit. On March 7th, the Monday after Nik left I was having contractions all day. Matt decided that he better work from home after lunch just in case. By the end of Monday I felt discouraged because my contractions had slowed down. But, by 2a.m. they were back with a vengeance. I couldn't sleep and I was trying my hardest to rest, but it wasn't going to happen. Matt woke up here and there to check on me and he wanted to go to the hospital then. I convinced him other wise. I finally called my mom to talk to her and see what she thought. I really didn't want them to drive all they way here for a false alarm. I mean, come on, I was only just now officially 37 weeks according to my original due date. They waited an hour and then got on the road. At 6 I got in the shower and got ready and at 7 a.m. sharp I called my doctor. He told me he would meet me at the hospital.

We checked into triage and I was 3cm. (Wahoo!) They wanted me to walk for an hour to see if I would progress and Matt took Parker down to the cafeteria to eat. After an hour I had progressed a bit and officially was admitted! We waited around for a little bit, which was quite difficult with a toddler. There is, apparently, way too much cool stuff in a l&d room!

Matt took Parker home for lunch and nap around 11 and about that time my doctor came in to check on me. He ended up breaking my water and my contractions were out of control after that! I requested my epidural and it arrived very quickly and was pretty painless and helped a ton! Oh, and Matt missed all of that! :( But I was tough!  My parents made it shortly after that and my dad took over Parker watch!

After my epidural, things progressed very quickly. There were some minor complications of Breckin's heart rate dropping and they finally decided that the cord was probably wrapped around his neck and the contractions were putting too much pressure on it. So they put me on oxygen, an internal monitor and extra fluids. But that didn't last very long because within 45 mins we went from 5 or 6cm to 10 and it was time to push.

They called my doctor and let him know. Thank goodness his office is right across the parking lot! And Matt called my parents to come back to the hospital. My mom arrived back at the hospital first and that's when I did my practice pushes. I actually mean practice push! I started pushing and was told to immediately stop and the nurses ran out to call my doctor again! I'm pretty sure one of the nurses pushed his head back in! A few minutes later my doctor was seen running across the parking lot! He arrived in the room and it was time. I pushed for maybe 5 seconds and was told to stop...again. His head was out! They suctioned him and unwrapped the cord and then it was time to push again. Another half push and our beautifully tiny baby was born. They laid him on my chest and there he was staring at me and I kept saying, "He's so tiny, he's so tiny!"

Breckin Rhys (pronounced rees) Huston was born March 8, 2011 at 3:42pm. He weighed in at 5 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 inches long. He is absolutely perfect!

Will do a post about Parker's adventures in brotherhood and our new life as a family!

on a brief moment of peace & quiet...

Aaah...peace and quiet! Parker is napping and I'm relaxing. I thought it was about time for an update on the HustonFam.

December:
The beginning of December was pretty uneventful. There was a lot of rushing around and preparing for the  holidays, but other than that nothing too exciting. The weekend before Christmas, Parker and I went up to Sheridan to spend the whole week with my parents. It was a nice change and super nice to spend that time with my parents. Matt came up mid week and it couldn't have happened sooner. We missed him so much! The rest of the week was crazy. We celebrated my brother's birthday, just the way he would have wanted! He would have been 27 years old.

On Christmas Eve, we headed out to Dayton for dinner, presents and then church. To follow tradition, we opened more presents at my parents house after church. Parker had so much fun opening presents, but he wanted to play with everything after he tore the wrapping off. It made for a long process. But, it was fun and we loved every minute of it. Saying Parker is spoiled would be an understatement! He has so many fun new things! Santa even brought him a little power wheels atv! He loves it. He just went and sat on it and opened all his stocking stuff from the atv on Christmas morning. My parents hosted Christmas dinner for the whole family including Matt's parents, grandma and aunt and my god-mother. We all had a good time eating way too much and playing Kinect to burn it off.  We headed home on Sunday and it was nice to be back in our own bed!

January:
Nothing too exciting has happened yet. Just getting back into the swing of things and preparing for Baby Breckin's arrival less than 11 weeks! This weekend will be the first time ever that we will be leaving Parker overnight. Matt's winter event for Progressive is Saturday night and we are going to stay overnight at the hotel. It will be really nice, but I am already asking my parents (they are watching Parker for the night) all sorts of questions. I'm pretty sure I called my mom this week and asked her, "What do you plan on doing with my son on Saturday?" Ya, I'm that kind of parent!

Parker:
Parker is now 18 months old...almost 19! We took him to his checkup and he still a tall and skinny guy! He is growing right on track! He is way ahead in all of his skills, especially his verbal. About a week ago, we started Parker in his big boy bed. He is doing very well in it and loves his night-night and pillow! It has been a good transition and I hope it continues to go this way because we have decided that the boys will share a room. Matt just painted their room and hopefully it will be all finished and ready by next week.

Breckin:
I am now 29 weeks pregnant. I have started going to the doctor every two weeks and everything is right on track. I am doing well with everything, but it is exhausting running after an 18 month old! Breckin is growing well and moving a ton. I only have 8 more weeks until I am full term and could go any day without any risks. We have pulled out all of Parker's old clothes and are trying to get organized for Breck's arrival. There are still a few things we have left to get, but hopefully we will get it all done in time. I'm ready to be ready!

Sorry that was so long! My new year's resolution (I just now decided): blog more! Let's see if I can accomplish that! I will post more Christmas pictures soon. I still need to edit them and make them pretty!
