This past week has been very hard on my family. My brother, Russell Wood, died on January 19, 2009. It's so hard for me to say, but he took his own life.
He was 25 years old and an amazing person. We never got along when we were younger, in fact we fought a lot. After he graduated high school we actually started to get along. But, he moved to Cheyenne, then joined the USAF and then he moved to St. Louis, so we were never really close to each other. I know he loves me and I love him. I will miss him everyday for the rest of my life. The last time I saw him was on our wedding day. That was about a year and a half ago. I wish I could have made it to St. Louis to see him. I wish he could have met his niece or nephew. I wish I could talk to him one more time. I think about him everyday and I know my family will. I love you and I miss you, Rusty! I always will miss you and love you!
Here is a poem I wrote for him.
Russell "Rusty" James Wood
Our hearts are now incomplete
Our lives are lacking
There are days we will cry
There are days we will laugh
Hearts will be heavy with sadness
But, minds will run wild with memories
Your life on Earth was short
But, you will live on forever in our hearts
Your love will never end
Your laughter will echo forever
We will remember you
We will cherish you
Someday we will meet again
There will be no more tears, just joy
Our hearts will be whole again
Our lives will be complete once more
You are missed now
You will be missed forever
