I think I knew all along that he would come early. And that is exactly what he did.
After a very nice weekend with one of my best friends, Nikki and her son Cameron I thought I could relax a bit. On March 7th, the Monday after Nik left I was having contractions all day. Matt decided that he better work from home after lunch just in case. By the end of Monday I felt discouraged because my contractions had slowed down. But, by 2a.m. they were back with a vengeance. I couldn't sleep and I was trying my hardest to rest, but it wasn't going to happen. Matt woke up here and there to check on me and he wanted to go to the hospital then. I convinced him other wise. I finally called my mom to talk to her and see what she thought. I really didn't want them to drive all they way here for a false alarm. I mean, come on, I was only just now officially 37 weeks according to my original due date. They waited an hour and then got on the road. At 6 I got in the shower and got ready and at 7 a.m. sharp I called my doctor. He told me he would meet me at the hospital.

We checked into triage and I was 3cm. (Wahoo!) They wanted me to walk for an hour to see if I would progress and Matt took Parker down to the cafeteria to eat. After an hour I had progressed a bit and officially was admitted! We waited around for a little bit, which was quite difficult with a toddler. There is, apparently, way too much cool stuff in a l&d room!

Matt took Parker home for lunch and nap around 11 and about that time my doctor came in to check on me. He ended up breaking my water and my contractions were out of control after that! I requested my epidural and it arrived very quickly and was pretty painless and helped a ton! Oh, and Matt missed all of that! :( But I was tough! My parents made it shortly after that and my dad took over Parker watch!
After my epidural, things progressed very quickly. There were some minor complications of Breckin's heart rate dropping and they finally decided that the cord was probably wrapped around his neck and the contractions were putting too much pressure on it. So they put me on oxygen, an internal monitor and extra fluids. But that didn't last very long because within 45 mins we went from 5 or 6cm to 10 and it was time to push.

They called my doctor and let him know. Thank goodness his office is right across the parking lot! And Matt called my parents to come back to the hospital. My mom arrived back at the hospital first and that's when I did my practice pushes. I actually mean practice push! I started pushing and was told to immediately stop and the nurses ran out to call my doctor again! I'm pretty sure one of the nurses pushed his head back in! A few minutes later my doctor was seen running across the parking lot! He arrived in the room and it was time. I pushed for maybe 5 seconds and was told to stop...again. His head was out! They suctioned him and unwrapped the cord and then it was time to push again. Another half push and our beautifully tiny baby was born. They laid him on my chest and there he was staring at me and I kept saying, "He's so tiny, he's so tiny!"
Breckin Rhys (pronounced rees) Huston was born March 8, 2011 at 3:42pm. He weighed in at 5 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 inches long. He is absolutely perfect!
Will do a post about Parker's adventures in brotherhood and our new life as a family!
